National Park is also Africa's oldest and larger marine reserve, playing a
vital role in the preservation and conservation of marine fauna and
flora. Hikers from all over the world visit the area which is known
for its rugged, un-spoiled coastline - a photographer's dream.

Harkerville State Forest Trails, set in the picturesque and
magnificent Garden Route, these trails with lovely coastal scenery, fynbos
and rivers, is a perfect eco-destination for your day into nature, with
swimming spots along the way.
To
get to Harkerville State Forest, take the turnoff from the
N2 20km east of Knysna and 12km west of Plettenberg Bay which is
signposted.
Velvet
monkeys and baboons are commonly seen along the way, as are fish eagles,
Lucky hikers may catch glimpses of bushbuck and Grey duiker. This
lovely walk in the Harkerville State Forest takes you from
the Kranshoek picnic site down to the mouth of the Kranshoek River and
along the rugged coastline to the Crook's River mouth and back along the
coastal plateau.
Harkerville forest is the ideal location for recreational
mountain-biking. The relatively easy gradients and diversity of the
rides offer some of the finest cycling in the Southern Cape. All
four start and finish at the Garden of Eden, on the N2.
There are a number of hiking trails between Harkerville and
the Tsitsikamma. The most famous of these is the Otter Trail
extending from Storms River Mouth to Nature's Valle. A hike on this
trail must be booked through the Tsitsikamma National Park well in
advance.
