Sport & Sport facilities
The province is also ideally situated to host national and international events. Among the modern facilities are the Free State Stadium, which is the home ground to the Cheetahs, the provincial rugby team. The Free State Cricket Stadium forms part of this precinct in Bloemfontein, as does the Astra-turf Hockey field on which many games of the Free State Hockey Federation is played. Tennis, Rugby, Cricket, Soccer, Athletics, Bloemfontein Turf Club. Naming & Founding: Speculation has it that Bloemfontein's name was derived from the large number of flowers that grew around an old fountain or spring on a farm which belonged to a Voortrekker named Johannes Nicolaas Brits. Bloemfontein is home to a host of unusual attractions which await visitors. Be sure to visit some of the places of interest displaying a unique blend of gracious old-world charm and ultramodern hi-tech sophistication. Attractions outside Bloemfontein include: Aventure Masselspoort Pleasure Resort and Philip Daunders Resort Rustfontein Dam Several other dams in the area also create the opportunity for Yachting, Fishing, and Water-Skiing. In season, controlled game hunting is allowed in certain areas. |
