Alphabetical list of South African towns

Located in the Eastern Karoo between Graaff Reinet and the Garden Route, on the N9 and in the cacadu district Aberdeen offers a rich and interesting history.  Aberdeen  is the largest mohair and wool producing district in South Africa. Aberdeen boasts a healthy climate, unpolluted air and lots to see and do.

Aberdeen started as a farm called Brakfontein and was founded in 1856. Aberdeen was renamed after the birthplace of Rev. Andrew Murray in Scotland.  Aberdeen has been declared as an architectural conservation town.  Excellent examples of the early ostrich farmers dwellings can be seen.

The Fonteinbos nature reserve has a natural spring with its source within the reserve known as Die Oog or the Eye. The spring supplies water to the town and irrigation to a vast area of arable land.  An abundance of bird life, monkeys, springbok, ostrich and kudu exist within the reserve.
